Chairman's
View
Seven years since its inception, Neerja Modi
School has reached a turning point and is today footing on the golden stone,
all set to instate Neerja Modi Art Centre. The Art Centre is a symbol of
Neerja Modi School’s involvement in activities relating to art, craft,
literature, performing arts and social work. As diverse as they may seem,
these activities are different components of a universal culture, a culture
that is innovative and is appreciative of artistic talent in any form. Our
long term perspectives and new initiatives are all taken keeping in mind
this universal culture.
I see my role and responsibility in creating a better understanding of
different cultures through sharing of art, ideas and life experiences that
influence art. The recently held Art Camp at NMS was a true reflection of
such interaction and exchange. We also aspire to promote aboriginal
traditional arts and artisans, crafts and crafts-persons. The centre will
play the role of a catalyst, in revitalizing culture in contemporary times.
In a year’s time, I see the Art Center emerging as a congenial working space
for individuals engaged in sustained creative endeavors. It would be spread
over a 10000 square feet area with a unique museum of indigenous art;
performing and folk arts, residential studios & artists lounge, conference
facilities, a library and of course- An Art Gallery. This space will provide
for innovation unconstrained by commercial limitations and will create a
milieu where artists can reflect, interact and create. Along with providing
a platform for contemporary artists, my institution also hopes to interact
closely with, and encourage young curators and critics, helping to give
voice to their concerns. The centre will focus on a limited number of
exhibitions each year and will foster open interaction primarily between
students and artists.
