Vocational
course by Ingrid Pitzer for Nischay Girls
Q. How did you come
in the World of art?
Ans. Basically I am trained in sculpture. I have studied in Germany in
College of Art, and after I passed out of college I wanted to find my
own way of expression of art. I was interested in paper so I began with
the medium paper. When I started with paper I didn’t know anything about
it, I just wanted to try it out. Then I discovered little by little and
developed by my own. What great Variety of art work one can do with
paper. The material fascinated me so much.
I am making handmade paper it now for more than 17 years. Over these 17
years I have become an expert and I sell them in Indian Bazars and
exhibitions in Delhi and Mumbai and world over. I began with a show in
Delhi which was quite successful. The shows kept doing well and now I’m
like almost a resident of Delhi. Especially in Jaipur I work in winters.
Jaipur fascinates me because I get material from Sanganer and because of
sun-shine which is very essential for paper making.
Q. How about working with Nischay?
Ans. This is my first experience of working with underprivileged girls.
If India has to remove poverty it has to improve. If more schools would
do this I think India can improve a lot.
Q. How should these girls go in future?
Ans. These girls live in the kind of surroundings where they get no
support. But if they get support from schools like this I think they can
go ahead. I think India needs to gather a lot support for them. We
basically need resources and support to help them improve their talent.
By educating these girls we can judge them after 2-3 years as to how
keen they are to learn. Then we can go to their parents and talk to them
that their kid is exceptional and duly if they agree we can make them
learn.
It would be interesting to see how many of these children go further and
support the environment.
Q. How you worked with some NGOs or organizations like this before?
Ans. No, I am a professional artist. I had not worked with any NGO
before. This school is exceptional. I’m basically busy in exhibitions in
Delhi, Bombay, Singapore, and Tokyo. It was this noble cause of working
with under privileged girls which inspired me to take up the opportunity
to work with them.
Q. What about the Jaipur? Do you like the city?
Ans. I am in love with Pink City. The beauty and sunny weather attracts
me and serves as an inspiration. So much so that my next exhibition
abroad, will be titled ‘Pink City’.
