for Nischay Girls by Jagdish Chandra, a renowned artist
Jagdish Chandra is a
renowned artist. He completed his BFA (Bachelor
of Fine Arts) from College of Arts, Delhi University. There after he studied in Monbusho
College on Scholarship in Japan in 1984-86.
He is basically an expressionist and figurative painter. He has been a
visiting faculty in Jamia Milia and the School of Planning and
Architecture, Delhi for 14 years. He is a free lance painter having held
exhibitions around the globe in Europe, Japan, Mumbai, Delhi and many
places. It was his concern for under privileged girls that drew him to
share his art with the students of Nischay Girls’ School.
He is honoured with the prestigious National Award for Art (1990) and
Sahitya Kala Academy Award and Sanskriti Award in 1988 and has also been
awarded “Senior Fellowship” from the Ministry Culture for years ‘96-98’.
According to him, painting cannot be learnt in few days. It is a
process, where one develops from scrap and searches for oneself. Art is
taught by interest and not technique teaching. Art is to open up,
freedom to express more. Do not restrict an artist or bound him.
