Visiting
Faculty at NMS from US impressed by our students
Ms. Annie Brown and Ms. Phalana Tiller who are on a month long visit,
under the Teacher Exchange program of NMS, are teaching History and
English in a Public School at Los Angles, USA.
Annie and Phalana are teaching History and English to VIII and IX grade
students in our school.
The earnestness of the students to gain knowledge and their ability to
assimilate the given topic impressed them. They were also surprised at
the high level of vocabulary and comprehension level of English of these
students which enabled easy exchange of ideas.
The emphasis is on Project Method in their teaching-thus a topic is
initiated and built up through discussions and group activities and may
be undertaking research if need be. A lot of stress is on kindling their
inquisitive thinking and analytical abilities. They also follow a
comprehensive interdisciplinary approach while teaching English and
History. They tried to implement the same technique but due to the
shorter duration of the teaching period felt constrained.
They, however felt that in Indian Education System, where the objectives
are clearly defined and students are well informed thus their thirst for
knowledge and their spirit to explore is glinted. They marveled the
disciplined and cordial behaviour of the students, both inside and
outside the classroom.
They, also had an opportunity to interact with the students of The
Residence as they were staying there. They were happy with all the
adulation and love and respect showered on them by the students. In
fact, many students confided a lot of ideas and thoughts in them and
also guided them as to which all spots places to visit.
They are enjoying their visit stay at our school and expressed their
desire if some teachers from our school could also visit their school
under the same programme. At the same time they extended an offer if we
can have an on-line exchange of ideas among our students as well as the
teachers of the two schools.
