Mr. Harish Iyer, a
professional teachers’ trainer for Cambridge University Courses, was on
a day’s inspection visit to the school on July 23, 2007. Besides his
physical verification of the School’s infrastructure to deliver the
Cambridge A-level courses he had a thought provoking interaction with
the teachers.
In his interaction with teacher he quoted examples of different
innovative and relevant methods of conducting a class that would
encourage critical thinking. He even proposed a few activities to
enhance understanding among students and make learning a wonderful
experience.
Excerpts of an interview with him:
Q. How would you characterize education today?
A. Two important concepts to be addressed in education today are
-
Learning should be addressed in all possible directions.
-
Learning should be assessed on criteria driven from self & peer based
assessment. This would motivate them to learn better and help tem
understand why they should learn a particular skill or concept.
Q. What does international curriculum mean to you?
A. International Curriculum does not entail just 5 star facilities but
the will to integrate the curriculum with required minimum basic
facilities. The Cambridge wants to make international education
affordable.
Q. How would an A level course benefit students in terms of quality
education?
A. The Cambridge International Examinations is an Assessment Board which
permits enough liberty to schools to conduct the curriculum in their own
innovative methodology to drive better understanding and learning among
students. It encourages the ‘Why’ in learning.
