Natraj Awards III
30th July, 2003
The Dance Festival
coined as the Natraj Awards was celebrated at an unusually large scale.
About 450 students of Grades I to III took part in it.
The process of
selection and elimination is not the style of function at Neerja Modi
School. We believe that given the opportunity every child can make it.
With this as our starting point we got all the children from every
section to train and learn, contemporary dance.
Nine dances
choreographed by Mr. Ashley Lobo of the Dance Worx Academy were
presented. The first number was performed by Grade I-A and I-B on the
popular music video, Tarzan and Jane, by Toy box. Ideally suited to
children’s taste it took them on a jungle safari.
The second item was on
the popular lyric ‘Ab ke bares to aise bares ki jum ke barse…….’ After a
prolonged spell of drought every prayer was moving heavenward in search
of dark clouds. The memory of Tansen singing Megh Malhar flooded back.
In modern times too we have had several beautiful songs invoking the
rain gods bounty. Shubha Mudgals’ haunting melody and the song from the
film lagan were performed by students of Grade II-C and II-D.
Students of Grade III-E
performed a vibrant dance on the number ‘Seize the day’. It was based on
the News Paper boys or Newsies who were really on strike but were
singing and dancing together to pep up theirs and each others spirits.
Students of Grade II-A
and II-B performed on ‘Shaka laka baby of Bombay Dreams’. The dance that
caught many a hearts was by Grades I-C and I-D on ‘Up town girl’
A dazzling, high energy
dance presentation was given by Grade III-C and III-D students. It was
based on the Musical Fame.
