Dance
Workshop by Ranjaana Devi Director, Asian Centre, University of
Massachusetts

Touring American University Students from Massachusetts led by Ms.
Ranjaana Devi, Director, Asian Centre, conducted a workshop in the
school premises. The troupe was welcomed by students of the school who
put up a folk dance depicting the Gaiety of Rajasthan. Prashast Tiwari
of Grade VII presented a spectacular song in Raag Kedar "Kahna Re
Nand Nandan", he was accompanied by Ankit
Chandak of Grade VIII on the Tabla.
The visitors also
presented a superb performance of some western dance forms like Ballet,
Tap Dance and Spanish Folk Dance. The Tap dance performed by Marina was
highly appreciated both for the expertise of the dance as well as for
the novelty of the item. Namrata, an American group member presented an
impressive Odissi dance and a wedding dance of Uttranchal Pradesh of
India in which our students also joined in. Ms. Ranjaana
Devi explained the importance of Art and Music in disciplining the mind
and soul. She also briefed the children about different Mudras
and highlighted the similarities in the dance steps of different cultures.
She stressed upon the importance of facial impressions while dancing.
