It was fun and frolic. It was entertainment and enlightenment. Neerja
Modi School has done it again. The First Prize Giving ceremony of the
Neerja Modi School, held on Thursday, February 28, 2002 bore witness to
the indomitable spirit and enthusiasm of the students of the Neerja Modi
School. The school, which was founded on April 9, 2001, has drawn
international acclaim from academicians for its innovative learning
techniques over the very first year of its existence. In keeping with
the NMS tradition of inspiring ethos, the ball was set rolling by the
eminent educator and motivator, Shiv Khera, who is also author of the
International Bestseller “You Can Win”.
The function began with H. L. Dutt, Director giving a brief report on
the objectives and developments of the year. Shiv Khera awarded the
outstanding students of NMS for their achievements during the academic
year. After the speeches, the cultural programmes began with the staging of
an ambitious adaptation of The Lion King, directed by Vishal Asrani, a
professional from Mumbai.
About 140 children participated in the play. Next
in line was the “Dance of the Seasons”, a representation of the natural
cycles of destruction and resurrection. “Kaikayi – A Story of
Love” brought the Hindu myth of Ram’s exile back to life. Kaikayi’s
dilemma between her loves for her own sons was wonderfully depicted by
the scintillating performances of students.
The brilliant backdrops coupled with the extraordinary performances
and well-coordinated, almost professional movements of about 450 young
children made it an unforgettable evening, enjoyed by everyone present.
In tune were the excellent light and sound effects and the lively dance
and music. Shiv Khera called it a “phenomenal performance”.
