Literature and Legend were both seen in
large measure in the Story Animation Presentation at
Neerja Modi School.
Eleven plays covering an extremely wide
canvas and spanning over two days were staged in the second week of
August. Rigorous training and the seeking for excellence is the hallmark
of every activity in the school. The most striking feature of this
year’s play was the weaving of songs into almost all the plays.
The staging of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet
and Mid Summer Nights dream was educational, entertaining as well as
visual delight.
However it was Salman Rushdhe’s “Haroun and
the sea of stories” that was really impressive. The treatment given to
this highly intricate and complex fantasy was amazing. The director’s
pen chant for story telling to a young and uninitiated audience was
evident.
The portrayal of Alfred Noyce’ poem “The
Highway Man” was another show stealer.
“Vishaal Asrani” its director used his dual
accomplishments of superb dialogue delivery clubbed with appropriate
gestures and actions to make the evening a truly memorable one.
There were plays based on ‘Meera’, ‘Panna’,
‘Krishna & Sudama’ as well as the origin of Lord Ganesha and the
transformation of Siddharth the prince of Kapilvastu to the sage –
Buddha.
The variety not only heightened interest
levels of all age groups of people but also exposed them.
