February 21, 2003
The School celebrated its Second
Prize Giving Function on the 21st of February, 2003.

The newly initiated Gold Medal for “the Best Girl Student” was
given to Mitali Agarwal of class VII A. It has been instituted
in the memory of Vimla Gupta the late mother of Mrs. Neerja
Modi.
Ten Inter House trophies were presented for Athletics, Basket
Ball, Football, Quiz, Drama, Elocution, Extempore etc.
There were about 50 individual prizes. These ranged from
Academic Excellence, to Performing Arts Awards. Along with the
Best Singer and Dancer Awards there were awards for young,
Promising Violinists and Guitarists.

Recognition of potential within a child and appreciating it in
the form of Awards in a public function raises the self-esteem
and motivates the child greatly. Every attempt is made by the
School faculty to identify hidden talent in the students. It has
been observed that success in one field overflows into others.

Students put up a simply superb
Science & Multimedia presentation. The show kept the visitors
glued to the projects much longer than planned.
The Cultural Programme had an Orchestra with about 20 children
on instruments and about 10 vocalists. Chopin's symphony was
played beautifully on guitars, violins and synthesizers.
A Western Dance number choreographed on the lyric “What a
feeling” got the stage pulsating with action.

The highlights of the evening were the musicals “The Sound of
Music” and “The Little Mermaid”.

Almost
200 students participated in them. The dialogue delivery, the
back ground music as well as the colourful costumes left the
audience spell-bound.

Note
from the Editor
Bringing out the first news letter was a full task of fun and
anxiety. Incorporating all the suggestions from parents and
patrons was a big challenge and became a colossal task for the
editorial team.
In this current issue, all the activities that the students have
been through be it curricular or co-curricular, have been
covered in the best possible manner, still there is always a lot
of scope for improvement.
All usggestions are once again truly welcome for the next issue
of Alma Mater to be published in October 2003.
